Nesting

It’s only been five short days since the lease for our new place in Chattanooga started and we’re already getting settled. We have finished moving our stuff into our ridiculously oversized house; the biggest problem we have is that we have no idea how to fill it (I know… it’s a rough life).

And these pictures don’t even include the massive basement room we’ve decided to make home base, or the two completely empty rooms upstairs. This is an open invitation to come visit us and help us use up the space! Although, be warned, thanks to our utter lack of furniture, it’s BYOBed.

This city really does seem to be everything we had hoped it would be. There’s a great culture, with free music every Friday night, a beautiful downtown, nice farmer’s markets, and fit and friendly locals. There is tons of world class climbing nearby, including one area that’s within walking distance of our place. We joined the local climbing gym, and not only is it the best indoor gym we’ve ever seen, it also offers free yoga and spin classes, has a full weight room, and costs less than any of the gyms in Austin.

But the best part is that traffic is practically non-existent.

Case in point: We went to a 5:45pm spin class in the center of downtown Chattanooga. We left our house at 5:20, and had no problem getting downtown, parking, walking to class, and then adjusting our bikes before class started. That would have been impossible in Austin… even at 9pm.

And in other great news… I got a job that’s perfect for me! They were looking for a C# developer with UX experience, which is EXACTLY what I had spent years doing at National Instruments. My skill set is rather unique, so finding such a perfect fit in a small city feels somewhat serendipitous.

Might be hitting you up for one of those empty rooms come winter… 🙂

Glad you’re finding a home for yourself! Me, can’t seem to give up the road life.
