Ride Along

A close college friend of John’s decided to purchase a car in Austin and drive it back to Seattle. Looking for a reason to hit the road – and a chance to hang out with a friend we rarely see – we happily agreed to join him for the first part of the drive. Unfortunately, this also meant that I actually had to drive, while John joined Tom in his new car.

As someone who has traveled over 20,000 miles in the last year, you would probably think that I’ve done my fair share of driving. In reality, due to John’s love of driving and my lack thereof, I have probably only taken the wheel for about .1% of our journey. This is fortunate for me, as my recent solo stint left me with an aching back, a throbbing headache, and an overwhelming feeling of boredom. Without John, I doubt our road trip would have made it past Dallas.

Besides the wonderful company, having Tom along had an additional benefit thanks to the fancy camera he brought along… a slight step up from our iPhones. We put it to good use, getting climbing pictures at Last Chance Canyon in New Mexico, and playing with long-exposure photos under the night sky. So, for the rest of this post, I will let the pictures do the talking.

We were playing with 10+ second exposures while using a light to draw things in the air. This was my surprisingly legible first attempt at writing backwards.

One of the things we miss most about Austin is HEB (our local grocery store). So, we stocked up on their trail mix and wasabi peas before heading too far out of town.
